Of course it goes without saying that @ducktwacy.bsky.social is one of the most brilliant, generous and witty people I ever met in my entire life. May her reign last many more moons, o’ great and powerful! 🫡

It’s only fair that I also share the Christmas card I made for her in 2023. Two geniuses at work 😤

I remember one booth sat on three copies of Chrono Trigger for the DS. All with weird various prices. Some had the first print posters. Most exceeded $200 and they’d barely budge if you tried bargaining for the actual asking price of the game. I stopped going to that booth after that interaction.

I went to my second retro games convention during the summer. I had a good time and was able to walk away with some good to decent deals. But looking back at my photos proves your statement. The folks who hid their stuff behind glass had the worst deals and barely sold anything…

When I was running an anime club in high school I edited a video with a couple catchy OPs that could get people’s attention at club recruitment day. Baccano used to be an easily identifiable series to get people interested in anime. It’s kinda upsetting to see its manufactured obsolescence.

Four people hiding in fear from a menacing presence in 1958’s “The Day the Sky Exploded”. According to Tim Lucas’ book “Mario Bava - All the Colors of the Dark”, most of the crew contest that Mario Bava directed a majority of the film and that its credited director Paolo Heusch was barely involved on the set. Consider also that the film uses a ton of stock footage throughout and Bava isn’t even the only cinematographer/special effects artist on the film.

not the first nor the last time Bava’s cinematography on a film became the main attraction for watching a film

Side Note: Wolfwalkers is also one of the few truly perfect animated films. If you’ve slept on it, please correct your mistake

What movie do you consider “perfect”?

The closure of EA Sports BIG and other more arcadey sports games really hurt the diversity of the genre. Now their games are a capital-S simulation series that only appeals to its rapidly aging demographic. Your only other options these days are Nintendo Switch Sports and… Backyard Games(?).

[EPILOGUE]: if you’re upset at the current state of Nintendo or games as a whole, instead of continuing to support their ventures why not give some of that attention (and/or money) to the indie scene. They need your eyeballs more than ever in our current monopolistic totalitarian media sphere.

Point of all this? It’s just really interesting watching the 5-10 year shift in opinions on whether Nintendo is cool or the literal devil of gaming. And the points of defending used to justify or demonize them. Forever making it blindingly apparent how little people understand their hobby’s history

It’s kinda unfair to compare the price structure of cartridges to the modern mostly downloadable focused models, yet I will say Nintendo is no stranger to the tier based games pricing. They’re just really good at smelling blood in the water.

Of course the difference is also that Nintendo usually keeps their employees… employed. So you have some degree of trust the money you spend goes to keeping its staff on the payroll. Unlike 90% of AAA studios. (cough cough) Microsoft… excuse me, I’m getting over a cold

Nintendo catching up to the current trends in the games industry forever puts them in the hot seat. Only difference is when they slap a $80 sticker on a game it comes with little actual pushback. Microsoft got bullied into dropping the $80 games quota, Nintendo is rewarded with chart topping sales.

Witnessing the pendulum swing of Nintendo’s cultural perception in the games sphere is always interesting. And it’s always the same points of argument regurgitated over and over. But with the added annoyances of whatever currently annoys gamers. I feel like its 2015 again in all the worst ways

Hi. I am the one transgender woman any kids cartoon is allowed to acknowledge. My existence only serves to spark a “special episode” that paints my entire persona around my gender identity. My episode is immediately pulled from syndicate. I am never seen again outside of a random BG sighting

To this very day I get people asking if I picked my name after Ramona Flowers. Even from other tgirls. While I’m legally obliged to not deny my Scott Pilgrim bias, I swear to god it was not the sole reason. Everyone who knew me by my old name agrees that I’m a Ramona. And that’s why it stuck.

When my brother changed his name I originally thought it was a requirement for trans people to stick with the first letter of their dead name. Turns out we as humans have freewill of choice. Who knew? Also Ramona has Cuban heritage so I was honoring my ancestors better than my white bread dead name

My dead name didn’t inspire much creativity in options. I originally tried to see if Talia would be a good fit for me. Unfortunately I had a friend in high school named Talia (who I awkwardly confessed my feelings to senior year), so that was a no go. Ramona ended up fitting my vibe better

Keep in mind, my class was mostly made up of weirdos who carried around life sized cut outs of trump like they were waifu body pillows and loudly listened to alex jones in class. Even these brainless idiots had enough historical knowledge to understand the party realignment post Civil War

I was in an AP Civics class during late 2016-early 2017 (otherwise known as hell). Half the class was filled with over privileged white republicans. One day for a project one of these idiots tries the whole “you know the republicans were always the true progressive party” and it was so cringeworthy
