Headline: Reform poised to raise Kent council tax as Musk-inspired attack on costs falters

Reform vowed to save "a lot of money" by abolishing "wasteful" spending in Kent. Instead they are going to put our taxes up!

⚽️ Then new sports facilities including a field and a Multi-Use Games Area will be constructed when the old school is demolished.

This £14m investment in Denton’s children is very welcome and one I’m extremely proud of!

The draft plans have been drawn up and the new building will be two stories high and built on what should’ve been the school playing field. The current school will remain operational while the new one is built

With the change of Government I had to make sure Russell Scott stayed in the programme, which it has, and now Tilbury Douglas has been awarded the contract to build, with the DfE directly overseeing the project (not Tameside Council). 🧱🪚

💬 I raised the school’s plight several times in Parliament, had meetings with Education Secretaries and Ministers - lots of tea and sympathy - but it wasn’t until I met Baroness Barran that someone “got it” and Russell Scott was placed on the Government’s School rebuilding programme!

🧱 A few years back, it underwent a multi-million pounds refurbishment, and on the face of it the school looks great. I was invited to cut the ribbon. ✂️

‼️ Sadly the work was substandard and done by Carillion. Problems soon emerged. 😱

Today is the beginning of black history month.

There will be lots of events happening in Newham celebrating black culture and exploring black history in our area. You can see the programme of events here:

In September, me and the team have helped constituents with a range of difficulties.

Some housing successes were getting support and assessments for multiple constituents facing homelessness. This included securing a safe place for someone who has been rough sleeping.

Right-wing media fluffs Farage for years, to the point where he now leads the polls, and then start whining about Starmer being 'obsessed' when he starts telling some long overdue home truths. It's actually hilarious.

Great to chat to Pancreatic Cancer UK about accelerating earlier diagnosis for patients with #pancreaticcancer.

Interesting to try the pancreatic cancer breath test and hear about how it can help patients get to early diagnosis and treatment.

As a former NUS vice president I enjoyed speaking at the NUS #labourconference reception on the importance of the students’ unions and the role they play in supporting the lives of students.

If you’re driving along the A13 you might be going over what used to be a lido!

The lido was opened by Mayor Daisy Parsons in 1937 and was used by locals until the 80s. Although there’s no longer a lido, Canning Town Recreation Ground is still a great park.

Minnie Baldock was a true East End suffragette.

She founded the first branch of the WSPU with Annie Kenney. They held meetings in Canning Town Public Hall, very close to where you can now find the street named in her honour.

Fred Corbett was a local boy who worked at the local shipyards and a football pioneer.

He joined Thames Ironworks FC and stayed at the club when it became West Ham United.

He was the UK’s third ever professional black footballer and the first black player at West Ham. ⚒️
