I guess I’m a little confused: if a reference is hallucinated, how could you read the source?

But I think we’re saying more or less the same thing: you actually have to read the source material — which implies it has to exist

And, to be clear: I don’t think using an LLM to find some references is cheating — as long as you’re actually reading them to be sure they are actually relevant…

Just as a point of reference: it takes a lot more than an hour to put in citations if you’re actually reading the sources.

Also: Zotero and other reference managers can ingest bibtex — so if you’re going to cheat, at least do it well!
