In other news: I spent the night at a Draft League baseball game in my hometown (Trenton) & made friends with the fans by us. It was a game we never stood a chance at winning, on a beautiful night & it reminded me of what makes MiLB so great when the MLB wasn’t/isn’t actively working to destroy it.

The newest executive order makes major changes to federal grantmaking, including additional review by presidential appointees and prioritizing applications with lower indirect cost rates. To the extent that federal funding remains, this is a big deal.

We tend to forget the struggles of scientists decades before their breakthroughs. Kariko, whose work is the basis for the mRNA vaccine, struggled to get funding as it was deemed too risky. She was even demoted from her position at UPenn.
