Despite being gone for decades, you can still see some remnants of the old round house in Milwaukee Junction, Detroit.

The next spot being considered would have massive Grand River running through the middle of it and surrounded once again, by nothing but parking. That's not 100% true.
@umich.edu is building there. Not a great hangout over the highway but its not my money to spend.

You can cover this area but it will only connect parking lots & parking structures. They're never going to start on that hotel that was promised 10 years ago and there's Harry's & Town Pump. Dead zone. Adding grass won't fix it. Pedestrian only street, Columbia, is dead outside of game days.

Cap project over I-75 could reconnect key parts of downtown The Detroit road cover plan would reconnect neighborhoods split by I-75.

Cap project over I-75 could reconnect key parts of downtown: One parking lot district to another... Seriously though, outside of a game or concert, #DistrictDetroit
is a dead zone. Empty parking lots, a few bars & no outward facing businesses. πŸ’€πŸŸοΈπŸ…ΏοΈπŸ’€ @axios.com axios.com/local/detroi... #axiosdetroit

Last night a new concept for Belle Isle was revealed. The idea is to turn the area around the Aquarium & Conservatory into a commons where people are encouraged to stay & explore more of the area. You can learn more & take a survey on their website. belleisleconservancy.org

Today, Ford will announce their "Model T moment." Curious which part they will emphasize?
1. All factory workers will go back to $5 a day.
2. Their new EV will cost 1/2 of their current EVs.
3. They plan to produce them in Highland Park, MI.
4. None of the above.

Was considering taking a MoGo from Ferndale then returning it by car once I got home.

Not cool SMART. 9 Mile bus turned south at Woodward and ditched us to avoid the train by Hilton. Walking to Warren.

Once a smoke belching, industrial shoreline, today the skies of Detroit are clearer & its use more recreational.

Historians will scold us for having let Fort Wayne rot for decades. So much history in our backyard gone to seed. If this was in any other state, it would be a national park, meticulously restored & staffed with reenactors. Speaking of my dream retirement job, I’d live onsite & restore buildings.

Maybe, just maybe, the answer isn't more lanes. But maybe that's a lesson for a different generation.

Detroit expands city bus service with more trips, longer hours on some routes Detroit bus routes are getting more trips and hours, officials with the city's Department of Transportation said Monday. They said the changes went into effect Monday and are part of the agency's ongoing efforts to raise its level of service and improve schedule reliability. Under the changes, 13 routes have more frequent buses on trips and 17 routes have expanded service hours on weekends. The changes represent a 5% overall increase in DDOT service, officials said. The changes include increasing the frequency of buses running on some routes during the week. For example, buses on Michigan, Van Dyke-Lafayette and Mack avenue routes will run every 20 minutes instead of every half-hour. And on weekends, buses on Vernor Highway and Van Dyke-Lafayette routes will run every 45 minutes instead of every hour. DDOT also said most of their bus routes on weekends will run from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. Previously, the buses started later and ended earlier. The department said the service expansion was made possible because DDOT has increased the average number of buses on the road each day by 14 and increased the number of drivers by 54 since last April. "Our April service expansions represent the latest efforts DDOT has made to improve service for transit riders," Robert Cramer, the department's executive director, said in a statement. "Offering more frequent and longer service spans both during the week and on the weekends allows us to better serve riders and give them more opportunity to get them where they need to go." Cramer took the helm of the Detroit Department of Transportation on Jan. 6 and is the agency's fourth executive director since 2018. DDOT officials also said the changes are the first of several improvements slated for the year. Among those are the arrival of 45 new buses between June and December and four fully electric buses that could also arrive this year, they said. In February, Mayor Mike Duggan requested from the city council $20 million for the 2025-26 DDOT budget to hire more bus drivers, mechanics, and order more new coaches. The department's budget year begins on July 1. The budget also included funding for additional maintenance and bus stop staff, increased bus cleanings, increased bus shelter repair and replacement as well as other bus stop amenities. Furthermore, the city council added another $2.7 million to the department and earmarked much of it for the installation of new shelters and benches at more bus stops. The council passed the city budget with the additional DDOT funding last week. cramirez@detroitnews.com @CharlesERamirez This article originally appeared on The Detroit News: Detroit expands city bus service with more trips, longer hours on some routes
