Allan Holtz says it ran until 1966, but it was reprinted in some foreign markets in the late 60's

Two pigeons on a London street, pecking at crumbs.

Pigeon 1:
"I'm sorry you missed out on the Booker prize. I thought your novel was wonderful."

Pigeon 2:
"It’s a stitch up! They always give it to a human!"

Pigeon 1:
"It’s nice they considered it."

Pigeon 2:
"Nobody cares about the longlist, Janet!"

Pigeon 2 again:
"Zadie Smith had a bestselling novel and an armload of literary prizes before she was 25*."

Pigeon 1:
"You’ve got to stop comparing yourself to Zadie Smith"

Pigeon 2:
"Why?"

Pigeon 1:
"We’ve all got to find our own path through the world. Plus, it’s much harder to type with claws."

pigeon 2:
"That’s true."

They both go back to pecking.

Pigeon 2:
"I’m glad you liked my book."

*Pigeon 2 is 3 years, 11 months and 22 days old, the equivalent of 42 in human years.

Yeah, even if people do only associate them with NieR, you would hope they would be thinking "So they produce work that's of the same high quality as what they did for NieR?" not "So they produce beautiful but depressing stuff for weird video games?"

It's weird, when I first heard about them I was skeptical too, but I find it's a really interesting way to not only revisit old games I've loved before but to see them in new ways and learn things about them. Now I love them even more

The amount of documentation something has is always an indicator to me of how much it seems like a dev really wants me to use it. If there's hardly any (and especially if the website advertises how "easy" it is to install, despite the lack of install instructions) I just skip it

A lot of movies based on newspaper comics are not that great, but Friday Foster is legitimately very good, and she's very good in it.

The newspaper comic strip Krazy Kat, created by George Herriman, premiered on October 28, 1913. The characters had previously appeared as a side strip to The Dingbat Family. Krazy Kat ran until Herriman’s death in 1944.

A comic called halloween costume ideas for birders. In panel 1, labeled easy, there's a person labeled northern cardinal wearing a party hat, a beak, and red clothes, and a person labeled roseate spoonbill wearing pink clothes and a wooden spoon on their nose. In panel 2, labeled harder, there's a person labeled merlin sound ID wearing a big green circle with a microphone modeled after the button on the merlin sound ID app, and a person labeled hybrid green x blue jay wearing a complex costume with a mask and robe and hat modeled after a recently discovered hybrid bird. In panel 3, labeled challenging, there's a person labeled baltimore oriole nest wearing an enormous accurate woven oriole nest suspended from their arms and shoulders, and a person labeled african jacana carrying chicks with a hideous costume of long-toed bird feet hanging from their armpits. In panel 4, labeled hot, there's a person labeled high quality spotting scope who is shirtless and is wearing a spotting scope mask on their head, and a person labeled sexy owl pellet wearing an owl pellet top and bottom with a mouse skull on their head.

A comic titled Spooky Bird Stories. In panel 1, a turkey vulture is telling stories to other vultures, and it says, "She walked toward the source of the terrible smell. She got closer and closer, and then, to her horror, she saw... No dead body." A black vulture says "No!" and a turkey vulture says "Did someone already eat it??"
In panel 2, a northern cardinal is telling a story to some songbirds. It says "They peered through the windows of the house at the gory scene. Zombies had smashed through the door in the night. The homeowner was dead. But worst of all... He hadn't refilled the feeders." An eastern bluebird says "Aaah!" and an American goldfinch says "It can't be!".
In panel 3, a screech owl is telling a story to other owls. It says "And then the ghost fluffed itself up really big to appear scarier." A saw-whet owl gasps, and a long-eared owl says "Horrifying!".
In panel 4, a downy woodpecker is telling a story to other woodpeckers, and says "The eerie sound rang through the dark woods. Tap-tap. Tap-tap. It was the distinctive two-part knock of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. The species had returned from the dead... FOR REVENGE." A red-cockaded woodpecker says "Yesss".

I agree with the large majority of this, but he lost me at the part where he said he still uses AI, just not AI art. I'm assuming he means an LLM of some sort. It makes me wonder why he thinks that's okay while thinking AI art is not.

"The Internet From 20 Years Ago" is still there. Blogs and personal websites are still a thing (and are easier to set up than ever). Webrings are still a thing. I mean, even things like Finger and Gopher protocol are still things. All you have to do is start using them.

I find it odd that any time I hear anyone talk about "webcomics" they're more often than not talking about comic book style, full page, continuity comics and newspaper style comics are never brought up. There are just as many of both styles. They are both just as valid.

Family Circus is this way as well. I think it's silly. If a strip is over and hasn't been passed on to newer talent, I think it should be given some nice reprint book collections, put on GoComics/Comics Kingdom, and taken out of the newspaper to make space for other strips.

04.10.2025 19:19 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

As much as I like Peanuts, I have to admit that the space allotted to Peanuts reruns would be better used to give exposure to strips that are still creating new material, whether they’re new strips or reboots of legacy strips. The entire run of Peanuts is readily available in books and online.

What I learned from being in customer service for years is that you write out everything you want to say to the customer, don't hold anything back, get it all out of your system...

...in Notepad, far away from where the customer will see it. All the catharsis without the drama.

A three-panel comic. The first panel is a scrap from a dictionary that says crypsis, noun: patterning or coloration that allows a bird to remain concealed by blending in to its environment. In panel 2, labeled effective crypsis, an american bittern blends in with a marsh full of tall plants. In panel 2, labeled ineffective crypsis, an american bittern fails to blend in among some short plants, next to a wet floor sign, and behind a stop sign.

The first person says "I heard there's going to be a Red-breasted Nuthatch eruption. Should I be worried?" In panel 2, the second person says "No, it's an irruption - an unusual movement of birds into areas where they aren't usually found. It's great for birders." The first person says "No, I think they said-" In panel 3, both people look alarmed as the ground beneath them begins to rumble. in panel 4, the ground erupts and hundreds of Red-breasted Nuthatches shoot into the sky, lifting the two people into the air.
