Maybe it's all part of an elaborate scheme, like copying the way Coca-cola came out with 'New Coke' only to infuriate it's customers and make them grateful when they went back to 'Coca-cola Classic'. Only this one is repeated every few years.

This maybe simply be the spin-off before the refocus again. At least, that's my hope.

My un-serious head-canon is that Ratchet keeps killing all the Thugs-4-Less groups sent after him, working his way up the chain until he takes out the leadership completely. The only Thugs-4-less that are left are ones who were off on other jobs and have no idea what happened as they rebuild.

Not sure what operating system you're using, but in the worst case, I transfer all the files I want from my computer to an external, then start over with a fresh install.
I have an old Asus with Windows I've had for over a decade and only stopped using because my phone now has a faster processor😅.

Secondly, I'd open up your 'start up' programs. A lot of programs/software are setup to start whenever you first open the computer, but many times you can't even tell they're running. I typically turn everything off unless it's something that desperately needs to update constantly.

Whenever I suspect my computer is running, my first step is usually running Malwarebytes; a free system cleaning software. Most computers have at least a few bits of adware downloaded and running in the background. If too much piles up it, obviously taxes your system.
