A comic book page by artist Simon Roy, divided into two panels, with the first depicting a crowd of strange-looking aliens in an underground cavern and the second depicting a human man wearing a glowing headpiece saying, “My audience. My beloved audience.”

@simonroy.bsky.social accurately depicting how artists see their audiences.

I was dissatisfied with my face, so I drew this new face. #art #graphicdesign #artanddesign #typography #illustration #illustrator #lineart #face

Beautiful example of comics doing what no other medium can do.

Move fast and break things, then make a bunch of money off of it while leaving everything broken and shitty for everyone else. Innovation!

We may be able to engineer human predation of animals out of the equation (through lab grown meat, e.g.), but you’d still have to convince all the humans out there to get on board. Slim chance. Non-human animal-on-animal predation? Sounds like a great way to royally screw the planet even more.

I will accept this on philosophical and humanitarian grounds; in application, I kick you out of the car for putting it on during the road trip. 😂

My philosophy: any song is a good song, if it gets somebody out there through a bad day—unless it’s a 21 Pilots song.

A page from the comic, Little Bird, written by Darcy Van Poelgeest, drawn by Ian Bertram, and colored by Matt Hollingsworth. The page is como posed of five panels. The first panel is a close up of the title character’s eyes, the second a close-up of red, intestine-like tendrils, the third a medium shot of the character surrounded by the tendrils, the fourth a close-up of the character holding tendrils with a metal clove, and the last panel is solid black.

My old internet buddy @matthollingsworth.com got me on Bluesky a year or so ago, but I’ve been letting it sit dormant. Figure I’ll start my tenure here by boosting some of his masterful comics coloring work. This one’s from the excellent Little Bird.

Our good friend in Greece, Judy Blish (also known as illustrator and author J. A. Lawrence) is the widow of the late sci-fi and fantasy author James Blish. He coined the term “gas giant” for large gas planets in one of his novels and it later was adopted by the scientific community.

I’d love to read that essay when it comes out! I find myself more and more influenced by Golden Age illustration, but it’s also tough to find concise, concentrated resources on the work from that era.

Love that you’ve made this switch—mostly because it means that you’re doing the hard research and development that I can then rip off. 🖤
