"Exquisite Creatures: A Dialogue with Art, Nature, and Science" by Christopher Marley. This is a gorgeous exhibition book featuring photos of a variety of small creatures in artistic display. The exhibit itself was intense color and so mesmerizing!

[Book] "Black-Owned: The Revolutionary Life of the Black Bookstore" by Char Adams. It's a comprehensive history of both Black and Black-owned bookstores as centers of Black life, culture, and political history. Deeply interesting and well worth reading.

[Book] "Protecting the People: The Central Office of Information and the Creation of the Nanny State 1946-2010" by David Welch. Was hoping for info on British public information films, with which I am fascinated, but book was more like real-life #Scarfolk. Interesting but slightly disorienting.

I decided to track all the books I read in 2026 just to see how much I actually read instead of what I think I read. Probably won't post them all, but it feels like a fun task.

Consider B Fuller, a good steampunk sort of tea shop in Fremont. They have an online store and they might have or be able to make something close to what you remember.

[Finished] "Presence: The Strange Science and True Stories of the Unseen Other" by Ben Alderson-Day. It's about the neurology & psychology of sensing a presence—hearing voices or feeling like there's someone else in the room when there isn't—but also touches on the Third Man Syndrome. Recommended!

I am at the point where extra books lie atop shelved books but I also received seven new books (so far) for Christmas. This does not count the space I annexed in the living room only for books about movies, which has this same issue. Maybe the kitchen needs a bookshelf now?

Reading: "Designing with Smell" ed. by Victoria Henshaw. It's a textbook on using scent in art, architecture, and performance. Disney's use of Smellitizers in Imagineering started me on this reading topic, but it's also made me more conscious of paying attention to the scents around me.
