All that being said, I do think that stories where faunablooms have to fight for recognition are good stories. I love Sui Generis. I just think that this alternate interpretation of mine can coexist with the lorets' official one. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

The Compact does anything it can to accommodate edge cases. I see no reason why a story can't extend that to this edge case as well.

Obviously they would still have additional oversight. "Affini" is a mindset as much as it is a set of phenotypes, and they need to make sure that faunablooms end up exhibiting both sets of traits. If they don't, someone more capable takes over and the faunabloom gets treated like a xenosophont.

Xenosophonts are all disabled compared to affini. If a sophont isn't disabled in that way, or they can prove that their disabilities don't get in the way of providing care that lives up to the Affini's exacting standards, then they don't fall under the category of "xenosophont" by that definition.

Nah, I disagree. Affini, culturally speaking, are caretakers above all else. If a xenosophont shows commitment to the Compact's cause and wishes to prove themself as capable of taking on the great work, then they can test them. If they pass certification, that's one more affini to care for the pets.

Because they're not affini, and the number of them that will elect to become affini and pass the courses is very very small.

That and affini can be domesticated too. It's less common, but it's still not something that only happens to xenosophonts.
