138 years ago today, Congress signed the Dawes Act into law. You may have never heard of it, but this law redrew the map of the United States.

For all the discussion of doxxing federal agents, there’s essentially no discussion of how those agents are taking steps that attach severe punitive measures that stretch across wide swaths of the federal bureaucracy against people acting lawfully.

Protests happen, but most of what is happening in Minneapolis isn’t protesting.

More accurate terms:
- observers
- witnesses
- volunteers
- neighbors
- residents
- people

AFL-CIO Mourns Killing of Minneapolis Union Member, Reiterates Calls for ICE to Leave Minnesota:

The AFL-CIO mourns the senseless killing of another Minneapolis resident by federal agents. Alex Jeffrey Pretti was a VA intensive care unit nurse and a member of AFGE Local 3669β€”a brother in our union family. Our thoughts are with Alex’s loved ones, his union siblings, and the people of Minneapolis at this devastating time.

As tens of thousands of Minnesotans made clear peacefully and powerfully yesterday, the Trump administration’s horrific operationβ€”and their actions aimed at stoking violence and chaosβ€”must end. America’s unions join the call for ICE to immediately leave Minnesota before anyone else is hurt or killed. We demand local authorities conduct a full, transparent investigation that will lead to accountability for this tragic and violent act, and for Congress to use its power to hold ICE accountable.

Alex J. Pretti was a member of AFGE Local 3669, according to a statement brought by AFGE.

The murder of a union member is only likely to increase calls for a general strike.

Honestly have no idea how this ends if there's a direct confrontation, and the ICE thugs seem stupid and reckless enough to actually have one

Videos Show Moments in Which Agents Killed a Man in Minneapolis

NYT says ICE shot him in the back:

An β€œagent aims his own firearm at Mr. Pretti’s back and appears to fire one shot at close range… A third agent unholsters a weapon. Both agents appear to fire additional shots into Mr. Pretti as he lies motionless… At least 10 shots appear to have been fired…”

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

MPD are cutting off Nicollet southward starting at 24th, and headed all the way down to at least 28th. Tear gas was being deployed as I left to go home. If you are responding in the area, wear a respirator mask.

ICE and MPD allowed a bus to drive through the scene as well.

I just responded to the scene at 26th and Nicollet shortly after the observer was shot. They teargassed and/or pepper sprayed Jana Shortal of KARE11 at the scene and she was being treated when I walked up. ICE have a fancy camera they are using to scan the faces of the crowd.

They are targeting children because they are trying incite violence. I have talked to many journalists today, and they all made the same observation: Border Patrol and ICE have been rolling around with maximum aggression, lingering for ages as crowds, gather, seemingly trying to cause a riot.

Newβ€” An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

Flyer on HOW TO TALK TO KIDS
ABOUT ICE. Includes blocks of text as copied below.

WHY THESE
CONVERASTIONS
MATTER
Kids hear things. Without guidance, they feel anxious.
Be present and honest.

WHAT NOT TO SAY
β€’ Don't worry about it.
(Feels dismissive)
β€’ That won't happen to us.
(Create false security)
β€’ Constant News/Replays (Increases anxiety)

WHAT TO SAY INSTEAD
Focus on safety and validation.
β€’ You aren't alone. Look for the helpers-I am one of them.
β€’ It's okay to feel scared. Let's talk about it together.

AGES 3-6
β€’ Focus on comfort
β€’ Stick to routines and offer extra hugs.
β€’ What to say: Some families aren't being treated nicely because of where they were born.
β€’ Reassure them: Remind them they are safe and loved.

AGES 7 TO 11
β€’ Explain the situation: Some families are being separated because of how they came here. That isn't right.
β€’ Open dialogue: Let them ask questions.
β€’ Safety first: Remind them to only discuss this with trusted adults.

AGES 12-18
β€’ Be direct: It is unfair that people are treated differently based on where they are from.
β€’ Listen: Encourage them to share their feelings.
β€’ Empower them: Support them if they want to take positive action
