Another 200 job losses have been announced at the University of Dundee.
Read our response here news.stv.tv/north/dundee...
The current situation at the University of Dundee is that we are not getting our annual pay increase and that promotion processes are paused.
At the same time the uni is refusing to rule out compulsory redundancies, it is advertising over 20 new senior management jobs for academic staff.
Our members will be on strike tomorrow as we ask the University of Dundee executives to rule out compulsory redundancies until at least June.
Your support is vital.
Come and say hello, and show your support on our picket line from 8:15-9:45 at the front of the Tower Building.
We are also hosting a rally outside of the Holyrood building in Edinburgh tomorrow from 12:30-1:30pm.
If youโre in Edinburgh, come and join us, in better weather โ๏ธ
The rally will focus on our and other campus unions fight against job cuts in the Scottish HE sector.
Today we strike to ask the University of Dundee to rule out compulsory redundancies.
Join us at the front of the Tower until 10am and then at Holyrood for our rally to defend Scottish Higher Education sector from 12:30-13:30.
Watch union representatives from Scottish universities give evidence to the Scottish Parliament on the crisis and how it is affecting staff and students.

Glad to be able to pop by the @ducuuo.bsky.social picket line as they were just getting set up this morning.
Staff are on strike in the cold & damp to say NO to compulsory redundancies. Management must engage with staff properly: co-design a recovery plan, do not impose cuts!

Solidarity to all of Dundeeโs workers as they strike in the face of some of most caricaturishly mismanagement this sector has seen to date (although god knows the competition is heating up). May this venerable institution survive and thrive; victory to the strikers!

Very strong turnout this morning on the first of our five days strike.
On Friday, in a meeting with the interim Principal, he confirmed his ideology is to cut as many jobs as possible.

We can also quote him word for word from a meeting with all staff on 1st July.
โI do want to emphasises the fact that itโs a pure voluntary severance scheme.
It will not be followed by a redundancy scheme.
There is no secret Plan B.โ
Yesterday our interim Principal, gave evidence to the Education, Children and Young People Committee.
He stated that he had never ruled out redundancies.
Judge for yourself.

We have voted to force management to rule out the use of compulsory redundancies.
The result demonstrates the anger & disappointment with the lack of progress and failure of successive leaderships at the University to deliver a sustainable way forward that protects jobs and the Universityโs future.
Our members have voted to support industrial action to fight against job cuts passed today!
In the ballot our 72% of members were in favour of strike action, and 90% in favour of action short of strike. Turnout was 58%.
Thank you to all members, reps and officials for helping us get the vote out.
Remember when UEG told us โthere was no plan Bโ for further redundancies.
Now we know, from the published Recovery Plan, that at the same time they were proposing over 400 future job losses including over 350 redundancies.
We cannot trust their words.
Vote in our ballot now to protect jobs.
Senate too also needs to advise Court on this appointment.
But Senate has not been asked to meet before Court will make its decision.
The Courier yesterday stated that Nigel Seaton will be staying on for another year.
We strongly oppose this reporting.
As they mention, Court will have to give final approval But this is reported as a done deal. It isnโt!
All Court members should be able to share their views at the next meeting.
The University Recovery Plan submitted by Court and UEG can now be shared. The campus unions are hosting a joint Townhall event to share the plan, so everyone can make their own judgements on what was proposed, including the number of redundancies.
Join us this Thursday 12:30 in LT3 Dalhousie.
Our ballot to renew our ability to take industrial action at the University of Dundee opens today.
Melissa DโAscenzio, Dundee University UCU branch co-president, said: โThe universityโs students and staff have been badly let down.

Unbelievable!
27.08.2025 15:39 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Itโs been reported in The Courier that the University of Dundeeโs Recovery Plan called for the loss of another 450 jobs (390 FTE) in the next year.
50 Voluntary Severance
170 Voluntary Redundancies
170 Compulsory Redundancies
With 110FTE leaving since March and 300FTE now, this would be 800FTE
