Why bigger may not be better for Indian cities
Disparate events in recent weeks have offered a window into how Indiaβs governing class, regardless of party, sees our cities. On May 15, the Greater Bengaluru A
Partha Mukhopadhyay writes about the urban governance in India: "Not only is urban governance not representative, it is often also performative. Like anti-smog guns, they have limited effectiveness but look modern and give the appearance of action."

The key question missing in Indiaβs debate over βtaxi mafiaβ and ride-hailing apps
Cities have failed to build mobility systems that are fair and accountable towards drivers and passengers.
My humble contribution to the βtaxi mafia vs ride-hailing appsβ debate β why we need to move beyond binaries & rethink mobility governance in India, for both drivers & passengers.

Uber introduces zero-commission model for auto drivers
Uber introduces subscription model for auto drivers in response to industry trend, aligning with competitors Namma Yatri and Rapido.
It is definitely a huge win for small apps in India such as Namma Yatri. But this decision should be scrutinised further. If Uber thinks SaaS is the future model in ride-hailing space, why not implement it for taxis as well?

We argue these cities are critical sites for understanding urban geopolitics where concentrated entanglements of exclusions and (re)borderings become manifest as these cities experience new infrastructural investments.
