The people I hear this from most in meatspace are people who can't as easily turn their jobs into a hobby, like database admins or HR workers, and don't have another productive hobby like cooking or woodworking, or who don't really get effective rest because their off-time is

There's so many examples of people doing work simply because they can; it's always wild to me how many people think everything would just stop without greed as a motivator.

I worked construction for a while (two back injuries ago) and you'd be amazed how many people went home and did exactly what they do at work as a hobby. Add Habitat for Humanity or how mechanics will go home and work on a project car, or how many people make food just because they love sharing it.
