This is an object lesson in the importance of force and violence in politics. ICE is able to flaunt the law because they're willing to use both. Until members of Congress start showing up with breaching teams and armed security, the law is irrelevant. Just a piece of paper.

I have believed since 2016 that the only thing that will break the silence is some type of calamity, something that forces the discussion.

This is all rather bleak. But I do not despair and neither should you. Life will go on. Opportunities for change will emerge. The future is unwritten.

the thing that the next dem candidate for president will have to understand and have to explain is that this court, with these powers, will not let a democratic president or a democratic majority govern, and that president and that majority will have to respond accordingly.

The Supreme Court derives its power from its legitimacy. It earns its legitimacy by explaining its decisions. The endless stream of wholly unexplained orders in favor of the Trump administration is not just indefensible—it's a threat to the court's own long-term power. This reeks of illegitimacy.

In an actual democracy, the Supreme Court justices would be required to explain reasonings for decisions.

We’ve reached the point where the news headlines sound like something out of the @theonion.com but are actually real.

Museums serve their communities. This intentional action to intimidate the museum's community cannot stand. Homeland Security is not just intimidating the community, but the museum as well. Our field must speak up loudly and forcefully against this.

They refused museum staff requests to leave, did not show a warrant, and refused to identify themselves. The founding of this country was built in part against behavior like this.

Absolutely disgusting. Yesterday, 15-20 Homeland Security vehicles showed up at the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture in Chicago and "told museum staff they were investigating entry and exit points for upcoming events that may draw undocumented immigrants as attendees."

Fact is, we *need* more parties. What we should relentlessly deride Musk for is not making electoral reform the No. 1 issue of his little endeavor, along with abolishing ballot access laws & other anti-competitive state laws

This was at an event that the White House billed as building unity in our nation.

It was also an America250 event, which means it’s supposed to be nonpartisan and your tax dollars paid for it.

“Congress” didn’t pass this murder budget.

Republicans did it.

Republicans did it without a single Democratic vote in the House, without a single Democratic vote in the Senate.

2) I'll acquiesce to the fascism (reasons for this one vary: cowardice, access, denial, misguidedly thinking that acquiescence is savvy, etc)

3) I oppose the fascism

5 of 6 Supreme Court justices appointed by Republican presidents were confirmed by a GOP-majority Senate where the Dem minority had won more votes & represented more people than the GOP.

3 of those 5 were appointed by Trump, who lost the popular vote, & 2 by GW Bush, who lost it for his first term
