This is the art I did in 2022 to commemorate the day of its release, which was my first #fanart of "The Simpsons" in general. I like it still, so posting it for 30th anniversary.

Interesting. I had feeling SU already carried very Moomin-esque vibe, so to see animated movie with the same sensibilities sounds appealing.
Hopes it will carefully bring atmosphere of Jansson's books to big screen.

Fanart of Carabas Barabas from 1975 movie adaptation of «The Golden Key, or The Adventures of Buratino» (1935), written by Alexei Tolstoy, which is a loose retelling of «The Adventures of Pinocchio». Carabas Barabas is based on Mangiafuoco, and he’s greedy and violent owner of a puppet theater (with living marionettes). He’s a hefty man with an extremely long beard, wielding a whip. In the movie, his hair, and a beard, is ginger. In the art, he’s portrayed operating Harlequin and Pierrot puppets.

Tyrus Wong was an absolute legend. He faced so many seemingly unsurmountable challenges and tragedies with grace, joy, and unbelievable artistry. When asked to describe his life, Wong said 'I get to wake up every morning and see the sun. I think I've had a pretty good life.' /fin

Despite the entire film shifting to Wong's style, Walt never bothered to introduce himself to Wong. Other workers at the studio also treated Wong poorly due to prejudice, jealousy, or both. Thankfully, Tom Codrick was kind and encouraging to him, and delivered feedback on Wong's behalf.

The brushwork, soft atmosphere, and keen color sense of Wong's concept art really shines through in the final Bambi style:

Upon learning Wong was just an in-betweener, Codrick announced they'd clearly put Wong in the wrong department. 😂Codrick sought permission from Walt to add Wong to the design team, and Walt was charmed by Wong's unique style: emotive, minimalistic, and with distinctly Chinese influences.

Wong decided to put his aesthetic sense and landscape expertise to use, spending his weekends doing style tests and sketches. Wong presented these to Bambi's Art Director, Tom Codrick.
