Most gender/schools coverage in VA comes from one reporter for a Sinclair station in DC market, who works it as part of Sinclair's "Crisis in the Classroom" series. His job before news media? Trump admin spox www.semafor.com/article/08/2...
I was back at 26 Federal Plaza today, where an ICE agent violently threw this bereft woman to the ground in front of her kids. She had not touched him. She did not pose any threat. She had to be taken to the hospital. (π₯: Elias Eliahu)
25.09.2025 18:03 β π 28250 π 14195 π¬ 5818 π 4096You've likely seen the new $100,000 penalty on high-skill immigrant workers.
Here's the next, separate bomb the White House is dropping on high skill immigration, to be officially published *tomorrow*.
tl;dr: Most H-1Bs now inaccessible for entry-level jobs, e.g. new grads from US universities.
That line is also some great irony.
21.09.2025 21:34 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Heβs over-intellectualized it all to the point of absurdity. They want power. They want to hurt people. Itβs bad. Who cares how they justify it with some crank Catholic teachings or what a slave owner said in 1792.
21.09.2025 00:18 β π 26 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I donβt get the constant staring into the abyss of the most nihilistic form of fascism he can find. There are more productive ways to build political dialogue.
21.09.2025 00:12 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Just doing their jobs for them by using a "parents" framing. Can't even be bothered to say "some."
20.09.2025 20:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Lemme be absolutely clear *every* H-1B visa employee at my (large cap) US firm was summoned back to the office from wherever they were in the world today for this crap. For some, it was utter panic. Appalling.
20.09.2025 20:11 β π 581 π 182 π¬ 15 π 4Critical part of the President's new $100,000 charge for H1-B visas: The Administration can also offer a $100,000 discount to any person, company, or industry that it wants. Replacing rules with arbitrary discretion.
Want visas? You know who to call and who to flatter.
Thank you. None of the news stories contained this information. Seems important!
20.09.2025 11:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This has been baffling to watch as a reporter outside the WH. Standing up for your counterparts from other orgs is just something to do as a good person and also important to stand up for our profession generally. Weβve learned that being a quisling will not save you or your org!

I said something last week that is more broadly applicable today:
Calling for empathy is not neutral or apolitical when only one group of people have been socialized and brutalized into having empathy.

11.09.2025 19:20 β π 15 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0When you publish a website that posts the names and photos of scholars who have written or said things you disagree with and encourage people to surveil and harass them, you are not, in fact, a βfree speechβ organization.

11.09.2025 12:07 β π 59 π 11 π¬ 0 π 0The irony is Klein talks about luck and circumstances all the time! But that has not prevented him from reflecting on how his new NYT circles may be skewing his worldview to the point that Klein from 10 years ago would be ashamed of what he excuses away today.
11.09.2025 12:01 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The professor has been fired and senior administrators removed from their post. No mention of this in the New York Times, The Free Press, The Atlantic or other outlets who drove the campus speech moral panic.
10.09.2025 11:59 β π 5821 π 2164 π¬ 111 π 81No solidarity. Reporters let Trump talk this way to a woman reporter and then clamor to get their own question answered. He used to do it to April Ryan, Yamiche Alcindor and Abby Phillip.
And thatβs why he controls media. No solidarity.

06.09.2025 18:50 β π 38 π 18 π¬ 0 π 0This is why when I asked my students yesterday what % of Americans think climate change was a hoax they guessed between 40% - 60%. Itβs actually around 11% and has been for almost 20 years!
But we HEAR from deniers SO MUCH (especially the White House) that people think the numbers are higher.
Itβs obviously not a new problem that our government is traveling the world randomly killing people of color with reckless abandon in their own communities, but it should still make us all furious.
