Kyiv - male, 3 years old, 117lbs Kyiv was found as a stray in a backyard so we are not too sure about his past. When Kyiv arrived, he was suffering from multiple deep abrasions, likely caused by his previous situation. While in our care he has been sensitive to overstimulation and displays a strong, almost uninterruptible drive to mount handlers when uncomfortable or overwhelmed. He also shown difficulties with unleashing and collaring in the shelter setting. Kyiv’s social skills with other dogs have also noticeably deteriorated, showing a lack of deference to dog corrections and increased unmanageable mounting behavior. When approached for physical exams, Kyiv shows signs of stress and fear: a hard stare, tucked tail, tense posture, and resistance to handling, requiring the use of a basket muzzle for safety. Despite these challenges, Kyiv is a beautiful dog with a lot of potential for the right environment. Kyiv’s behavior indicates he may thrive with a low-stress environment and handlers skilled in managing strong drives and reactivity. If you are a rescue organization and are willing to provide Kyiv with the rehabilitation and understanding he desperately needs, please let us know if you can help! Unfortunately, Kyiv's needs are beyond our shelter's capacity and he is seeking placement by 6pm on 9/11/25.
