I'm not sure how to adapt this to a "not me in this very specific situation years ago" audience, but maybe you could try writing in front of some of your fellow freak friends in a stream or something. force your shame into a "it's you or me, one of us dies" moment

I slaughtered my shame by going to community college and writing my fanfiction in the computer lab on an outward facing laptop in decently large font. People would gather. We would laugh at my typos together. A dude handed me his flash drive at the end of a writing session once.
