The Rio Grande Valley as Heart of LGBTQ+ Resistance and Joy As we celebrate Pride Month, I am struck by the contrast of what I know to be true about this region and what the popular narratives may be.

Beyond stereotypes: "As we celebrate Pride Month, I am struck by the contrast of what I know to be true about this region and what the popular narratives may beβ€”behind the curtain of these filters imposed by outsiders, the Valley boasts an abundance of creative, powerful, and joyful communities."

Texas Schools to Get a Bit More Cash and a Lot More Christian Nationalism Assessing the 89th Legislature’s effect on public education

I want to start with gratitude: sleeping puppies, flourishing basil, baby bluejays. It's an amazing bounty.
And then, there is this outrage:

Over 5 MILLION people showed up to make their voices heard yesterday.

In over a thousand locations both here and abroad.

Their messages were clear.

The rampant destruction of Elon Musk and Donald Trump must end.

We reject the oligarchy.

Democracy is worth fighting for.

America is worth saving.

Portrait of Clemetis Hansen

Portrait of Clemetis Hansen

100 yrs ago today in Trinidad, Co, my mother Clemetis Simmons was born. She grew up picking cotton alongside her brothers and finished life as an artist on the Wa. coast. She was tough, loving, and a safe haven for those in need. She had zero tolerance for discrimination. I'm celebrating her today.

Yes, we are seeing this reflected in hospital admissions and how busy the ER is. It's not too late to get a flu vaccine. Every patient I've seen with flu or post flu pneumonia so far, is unvaccinated. Sure you can flu even when vaccinated but you are less likely to end up hospitalized for it.

No topic or opinion off limits at new Texas college – a place where students, professors won't get "canceled" UATX President Pano Kanelos said the school looks for students who think deeply and challenge norms. The University of Austin was founded to encourage free speech and open debate.

And: A curriculum based on the Bible, with twice the number of male to female students, one female prof for every six male professors, that is funded by "frustrated billionaires". "No topic or opinion off-limits"? Looking fwd to hearing from bipoc or lgbtq+ students.
