This July 4th, we celebrate freedom, but we also fight for it.
Justice, equity, and democracy aren't guaranteed.

Honoring the legacy of freedom and resilience this #Juneteenth. I'm proud to have played a part in making this powerful day an official holiday in Hillsborough as just one step forward for recognition, remembrance, and ultimately justice.

Hillsborough (pop 10k) had a monster turnout of at least 1200 to loudly proclaim #nokings ! ✊🇺🇸

Tomorrow I'll be at the #nokings protest at the Historic Courthouse in downtown Hillsborough at 11am. I hope you'll join me and millions of others around the country protesting in support of liberty and freedom.

Wonderful to be at the groundbreaking for Auman Village, a new Orange Habitat affordable housing project in Hillsborough! Approved in 2020, the Town Board recently dedicated $100k a year for 4 years starting next fiscal year. 🏡💰🪏

Thrilled to attend the investiture of Justice Allison Riggs as she formally took her seat as an ELECTED justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. After 100+ days the will of the voter PREVAILED.

ICYMI: CNL Steering Committee Member and Hillsborough Commissioner Matt Hughes (@matthughesnc.bsky.social) has a new op-ed out in @newsobserver.com arguing for changes to restrictive covenants and zoning laws that limit the supply of housing in North Carolina.

Thoroughly enjoyed participating on this panel on criminal justice and education for the NC NCAAP prior to the start of its advocacy day. I was proud to bring my perspective as a town commissioner, who also happens to serve as Third Vice President of the State Conference.
