Life is peachy
#watercolor #artjournal
There's something soothing about building an abstract. Though I felt I wanted to add a bit more 'llfe' if you will, with no commitment other than purely enjoying the process and let my intuition guide my hand.
#hydrangeabouquet for the journal.

Painted with #danielsmithwatercolor and finished with #winsorandnewton black ink lines on cold press #cansonwatercolorpaper for practice.

When I'm nose down painting, the world turns and I don't notice. I have worked on a few exercises since last time I posted, but I'm kinda loving these postcard size abstracts made with my smallest spatula. They remind me a lot of my father's works.

It's my birthday!
#mayflowers bring you the month's birth flower, the lilies of the valley. We have these little cuties on our garden. They are beginning to bloom after a long winter nap!

7) lastly (for now), I learned to enjoy the journey rather than focus on how perfect the finished product can be. I discovered that when I enjoy the process, my product brings me unimaginable joy, even if it never sees the light of day. 6/6

5) I learned to let go of the details and challenged myself to look at and capture the bigger picture, rather than focusing on how close to the original I can make things look. 4/6
2) Practicing every day forces me to pay attention to my surroundings, to leave the comfort of my office even if it is to step into my garden to appreciate the immediate natural environment. 3) I challenged myself to just start painting without sketching a pencil outline. 3/6

I am an on-and-off visual artist whose muse only visits for a limited time, with sometimes 2-3 year gaps in practice. This said, I have been consistently practicing my watercolor painting for over the last three months, almost every day. These are a few takeaways so far from this journey. 𧡠1/6

I have decided that #oilpastels are not a medium I enjoy. However, because of how my hand uses them, I also decided they would be perfect to help release frustration. #angrydrawing

2/3 Mastering simplicity is difficult, but I'm now more comfortable in letting the water do its thing rather than drawing first, or getting too hung up on the details afterwards.
