Many thanks for for our instagram follower for identifying the location. The next challenge is the studio itself, and how these photos got into the Estonian National Museum.

Based on handwritten notes preserved on the reverse of photos from the same series, and compared with historical settlement records, this souvenir studio photograph most likely depicts an Udmurt woman from Medvedevo (Gondyrevo / Гондырево), a village in Sarapulsky Uyezd of the Vyatka Governorate

In a new blogpost, we use the example of Mari traditional clothing to explain how all of this comes together as a Wikimuseum. We write about why we work this way, how images, music, films, and texts connect on finnougric.net, and what kind of cultural space emerges

Mari Clothing Heritage Across Collections
A Wikimuseum of dispersed Mari garment history
Over the past weeks, many of you started following this account on instagram because we shared Finno-Ugric dress history, historical photographs, and everyday heritage — Mari garments, Livonian barnsheds, small details that rarely travel far. And beyond images, Mari, Sámi, Udmurt and other pop music
