South African political parties’ internal democracy problem Several of South Africa’s political parties seem to have little intention of allowing their members to elect their leaders.

Monday morning, a fascist online rag published a hit piece on one of them w/ content amounting to claiming that he's Jewish and gay or bi; by Monday evening, Tisza withdrew the endorsement, and didn't even deny that there was a connection - best case scenario, it wasn't the Jewish part that did it,

3/ The situation is worse than 2016-2017 genocide, largely because people have no access to communications in #Rakhine State while they face the AA's forced transfer, displacement, systematic starvation & other atrocities. We need immediate attention to this ongoing genocide.

2/ Int'l community must urgently do everything to protect #Rohingya civilians in #Rakhine State, prevent further atrocities, deploy investigations. Evidence must preserved as required by #ICJ provisional measures. I fear that the AA will continue to cover up their atrocities.

1/ Horrifying photos are being circulated, corroborating the Arakan Army's massacres of hundreds of #Rohingya in Thang Shout Kan (Hoyasiri) in May 2024. This reveals only a part of the atrocities over a year later. Now, Rohingya are facing total elimination in #Rakhine State.

And, turning the legislative majority into a rubber-stamp then harshly sanctioning the minority if they dare engage in any creative protest tactics is straight from Orbán, e.g. Karácsony and Ors. v. Hungary [2016] ECHR 429.

The threat to abuse quo warranto petitions specifically is a very close parallel to how Duterte got rid of Maria Lourdes Sereno as Chief Justice of the Philippines when she attempted to defend fundamental rights against his drug war.

Quote from our published article by author Julian Schramm: “[A] closer look at the agreement reveals that the Accord continues to entrench the French hold on the island and renders New Caledonian independence more elusive than ever.”

A year after violent unrest in New Caledonia, local and French officials signed the Bougival Accord to restore peace.

JULIAN SCHRAMM argues that the Bougival Accord may have calmed the streets and the situation for now, but it didn’t resolve the core conflict.

During the interview, Aguilar told Van Hollen that he witnessed an intense situation while working control room duty as a contractor, where an IDF soldier, over the radio, instructed contractors at the site to shoot at children at the aid hub. Aguilar responded that shooting should not occur; the children left the site before anything happened.
But after the incident, a higher-up from Safe Reach Solutions, a private firm overseeing GHF aid operations and bringing American contractors to work at them, disciplined Aguilar, telling him to never say no to the client — the IDF.
"The Chief Operations Officer for Safe Reach Solutions, our higher headquarters, so to speak, in the contract, beckoned me outside with him. And he looked at me in the face, and he said: 'Never say no to the client,'" Aguilar told Van Hollen. "And I asked him, I was like, 'I didn't know the client was in there. Who's here? Did [GHF Director] Johnnie Moore come to visit?'"

A former Green Beret who worked for Gaza Humanitarian Fund, the org responsible for the daily massacres at "aid sites", revealed that he was ordered by an IDF soldier to shoot at children.

Then he was disciplined for ignoring him, because he was explicitly told GHF worked for the Israeli military

The idea is that the court is ordering a stay of agency action, and if the agency was applying that action universally, well, it's stayed universally.

Lawgeeks, regarding the scope of this order—all people who have ever been paroled into the U.S. at a POE—recall that when SCOTUS decided to end universal injunctions it left open the possibility of essentially universal APA § 705 stays.

That's what's happening here.

Narrowly, this is a straightforward case of statutory interpretation and agency rationality.
Neither the applicable statutes nor principles of reasoned decision-making authorizes the
challenged agency actions. More broadly, this case presents a question of fair play. Plaintiffs’
members, and hundreds of thousands of others like them, fled oppressive regimes and perilous
conditions in their home countries. They arrived for inspection at the United States border pursuant
to procedures created and advocated by the U.S. Government. They were paroled into this country
under those procedures and given the chance to prove their claims for asylum or other relief
authorized by our laws. In a world of bad options, they played by the rules. Now, the Government
has not only closed off those pathways for new arrivals but changed the game for parolees already
here, restricting their ability to seek immigration relief and subjecting them to summary removal
despite statutory law prohibiting the Executive Branch from doing so. This case’s underlying
question, then, asks whether parolees who escaped oppression will have the chance to plead their
case within a system of rules. Or, alternatively, will they be summarily removed from a country
that—as they are swept up at checkpoints and outside courtrooms, often by plainclothes officers

🚨🚨🚨Fed. judge holds that DHS' expansion of the use of expedited removal to sweep up noncitizens in ordinary removal proceedings likely violates the APA and is stayed (that is, blocked) for all people who have been, at any time, paroled into the United States at a point of entry.
