If we concede any part of due process for one 'illegal immigrant,' no one has due process rights. If we concede to censorship of one piece of tasteless pornography, no one has free speech rights. Rights are universal, only privileges can be negotiated.

The reason Buttigieg and Newsom and everyone who says we have to acknowledge parents' concerns about trans girls playing sports disqualifies themselves is that they are saying they have no principled objection to putting me or you or anyone in an extermination camp.

The moment you start negotiating that, you are saying that if enough right-wing lies are told about any group then their human rights can be stripped over those 'legitimate concerns.' Human rights are universal or no one has them; they just have privileges granted for now.

Measured explanation: trans children's participation in sports and every other aspect of their community in exactly the same way cis children can is a question of human rights. Barring them from bathrooms or teams or anywhere denies their equality and rights.
