The first Terminator is an absolute masterclass in a lean script. Every moment of that film is necessary and enjoyable. Incredibly well structured.

I have tried over the years to get my kids to watch older movies (they’re in their earlier 20s now). Two absolutely timeless movies: Jaws and The Thing.

Back to the future is a very good film, but more importantly it is the ultimate encapsulation of every 80s movie trend in one movie. I can’t think of another movie that is not only good but is a perfect time capsule of that decades film-making.

100% agree. I think for creative teams this is actually going to be one of the biggest wins from generative AI, because a very small team with good ai tools can make a set of storyboards for a film or show that get you to the point where you can "see it" and things become a much safer bet.

In a lot of ways, I firmly believe that coding (and, my god, debugging!!) are things that should be taught to every person in America: like Math, English, Science, or History.

Those skills simply make you a better human, able to solve any general problem better.

But I spent my 30s building teams of people that are now leads and principle engineers, and that cost on my time was paid off 10x by what those people have gone on to do.

But more often than not they do it at different companies and a decade later.

Ironically, I've never been in more in demand now than before, but I can see them burning every bridge behind them.

And yes, hiring a team of ten 40 year old rockstars is unbelievably cost effective (we do the work of 50+ people teams filled with people of diverse experience).

You are exactly right. A huge number of companies are "saving" money by hiring teams of only senior and principle level, with the expectation that they will not "waste" any money training people right out of college. That's going to work for about 10-15 more years...

We're all going to be eating a lot more of this in the future. As food prices start to skyrocket, Zucchini grows like a weed in most of America and it will be a huge staple to our diets.
