Last Friday, I had the honour of joining Senator Bernard in Nova Scotia to celebrate her birthday and commemorate Emancipation Day — a powerful reminder of the legacies of slavery in Canada and the ongoing fight for justice, equity, and freedom. 1/2

Official statement dated July 29, 2025, from Canadian senators calling for a full arms embargo on Israel amid the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The letter expresses alarm over Canada’s continued military exports, citing over 1 million Palestinians facing food insecurity and over 1,000 killed while seeking food. It references PM Mark Carney’s statement on Israel’s obstruction of aid and cites new NGO evidence that Canadian weapons are still being exported. The senators urge the government to act under Canada’s Arms Trade Treaty obligations and enforce a full embargo, warning that failure to do so would betray human rights and international commitments.

July 1st is Chinese Railroad Workers Memorial Day, we honour the thousands of Chinese workers who, despite discrimination, exploitation, and deadly conditions, laid the tracks that united BC with the rest of Canada.
