My take on the LA riots so far:

10 cameras to every 1 violent protestor. 1 camera to every 10 non-violent protestors.

LAPD have shot a news anchor deliberately.

LAPD mounted units have trampled a person who had the hands raised in surrender.

So, yeah... Not going well.

The press were just doing their job -- a sacred one explicitly protected by law.
