i think wrabbit's story works entirely without that explicit coding too. you can have a story about prejudices and poverty, without tying it to a specific real world event or political context.

it's like. maybe 80% there with getting it, and then 20% the most batshit insane framing that undercuts the entire thing. genuinely needed a sensitivity pass or just flat out cut the war on terror aspect of it completely if you dont wanna actually engage with it meaningfully

i dont really hate the core concept of DmC, but the execution is really lacking, it's misogynistic as fuck, and i dont like angels/nephilim being brought into dmc's lore. they also just fumbled vergil so bad i think the game would be genuinely better if they cut him out lmfao

i think it CAN work, but it demands more empathetic, thoughtful and tactful writing, and dmcn does not have that, nor does it actually have the time to properly explore the parallels it's trying to draw. as it is it's just kind of halfbaked and offensive. it's a shame.

i think dmc netflix's core story works very well as a devil may cry story. the thing is, it doesn't work as the 1:1 political allegory it is trying to do with the war on terror. you cant have that kind of loaded imagery and treat it like set dressing, tacked on without thought-

also since i am seeing it brought up in comments or whatever, i absolutely do not agree that DmC:dmc is better than dmcn or closer to the essence of devil may cry. you gotta be outta your damn mind to think that shit
