Showy white flowers of black locust, left, and green male flowers of bur oak, right. The white flowers are not allergenic, the green flowers are allergenic.
People often say they are allergic to trees with showy flowers like black locust, but they are pollinated by animals, and don't cast pollen to the wind. People will associate their allergies with a particular showy tree, when the real culprits are nearby trees that cast pollen to the wind. 1/2

statistics that hows the reprodutcive value of native vs non-native plants to butterflies and moths. Native plants have a high value, Non-native plants trend towards zero. Plant native !
We need butterflies because birds eat caterpillars, and we need our backyards to be "ecological functional".
For more info: Doug Tallamy's "Nature's Best Hope".
Data is local to SF Bay Area - same concept of "Plant Native" exists everywhere!

I also really love the ocean and being outdoors.
If I'm not outside looking at plants I want to be teaching about them, writing about them, or playing with them in my kitchen
