Yesterday, 6th September, the Association laid a wreath of remembrance for Oliver Cromwell by the statue overlooking Parliament Square. Professor Alice Hunt, left, and President of the Association, Dr Ismini Pells, right. Thanks to Parliament and the Met Police for their support.

On this date in 1650, Cromwell and the New Model Army secured a decisive victory against a Scottish royalist army at Dunbar. Exactly a year later, he defeated Charles II's army at Worcester. Ironically, the date of his death in 1658 was also September 3rd.

This year's Cromwell Association Study Day will take place on Saturday, 18th October, in London. It will focus on the cultural life of Cromwell's Protectoral Court and how Cromwell has been represented in contemporary culture, from paintings to fiction. www.olivercromwell.org/wordpress/st...

Renaissance Studies is one of the leading journals in the field of Renaissance studies, with an interdisciplinary emphasis, and a worldwide readership. Established in 1987, Renaissance Studies is published in partnership by the Society for Renaissance Studies and John Wiley & Sons Ltd (Wiley). The Council of the Society for Renaissance Studies (SRS) seeks to appoint an Editor for Renaissance Studies to succeed Professor Kevin Killeen, who retires as Editor in December 2025. It is hoped that the new editor(s) will be able to take over responsibility from 1 January 2026 and serve for a 5-year term until 19 December 2031.
