Breaking News: The U.S. military is preparing to activate National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., as part of President Trump’s crackdown on crime, a Defense Department official said.

The most unsafe I've ever felt in DC was 1) when Trump sent the National Guard after peaceful protesters in June 2020 and 2) When Trump did not call the National Guard while an armed mob stormed the Capitol building on January 6. Trump is the "crime, savagery, filth, and scum"

Rebecca Traister wrote a beautiful foreword, Renee Bracey Sherman wrote a powerful afterword (with suggestions for contemporary readings), and I wrote an introduction with historical context

Patricia Maginnis, often considered the first pro-abortion activist, believed in the repeal of ALL anti-abortion laws. She also held classes about how to self-abortion and ran an abortion referral service in California. Included are some of her satirical pro-abortion limericks.

Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman in Congress, gave a powerful speech to Congress in 1969 (her FIRST year) about the necessity of legal and accessible abortion. Called "Facing the Abortion Question," it's worth reading in its entirety because her arguments are still sadly relevant.
