Eh. Given the author's choice of words in the opening and closing paragraphs, it seems he β€’stronglyβ€’ desires a physicalist approach. But - and to his credit he closes with this - this theory only focuses on "downstream" effects outside of the quantum realm. Doesn't pass the sniff test for me.

Eisenhower warned us in '61: "In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist."

The terror has arms that wave back and forth
Turning things we love inside out

I open Meditations to a random page and it mentions eagles.

Ten seconds later the PJ Harvey that’s playing mentions eagles.

I parlay this craziness. I grab the book next to me. Open to a random page. The third word I read is β€œeagles”.

All of this in the space of thirty seconds.

Brilliant album that I was just thinking about yesterday. It’s a sign. Of what, I dunno.

They exist outside of time. Airports are funky that way. Like casinos, but with less noise.

Anything short of a single, berobed storyteller sitting on a low wooden bench at the front of the theater is a bunch of fakery.

I’ve tried to get through it twice but it’s terrible. This was empirically a bad film: poorly written, edited, shot, and directed. If someone liked it, cool. But there’s a huge difference between liking a film and it being a good film. Two totally different tests.

100% The sound, costume, and set design is. Wendy Carlos's score. Each shot – once on the Grid – is beautifully composed. It is pure art in motion. I wish they had kept that same level of beauty and wonder in the sequels.

I respect Memento but don’t care for it. I’m not a huge fan of Nolan so it goes with the territory. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Absolutely! We all like what we like. I don’t like Memento for that reason but at least it makes sense in the context of the main character. In Weapons it feels like padding (to me!).

30.12.2025 18:27 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Respectfully disagree. The story jumps back in time and replays scenes from other characters’ view points at least 6 times. It’s one of the clunkiest and most obvious - and blazingly unnecessary - plot devices there is.
