20.11.2024 14:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0So Iโm settled on Holistic Physical Therapist! Not Holistic with MAHA vibes (๐คฎ), but with taking the whole body into account with a side of social justice vibesโจ๐ซถ
20.11.2024 14:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0And even saying neuro/ortho/pelvic PT doesnโt encompass the way I treat dysfunctions in their viscera/vessels as well, which is CRUCIAL for of diagnoses, because the pelvic floor is basically a co-dependent friend responding to dysfunction around it!!
20.11.2024 14:46 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0If I HADNโT treated their neck, their pelvic floor wouldnโt have responded as well when I eventually made it down there later in the session.
20.11.2024 14:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0But the world of pelvic floor PT wasnโt always treating the whole body. Even my patients whose neck was more of an issue than their pelvic floor that day said โI fell bad you are treating my neck because I know you mostly love pf treatmentโ!!
20.11.2024 14:41 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I also started finding that helping people with pelvic floor diagnoses regain function felt similar to those rehab โhigh highsโ
I personally missed!
I also was realizing that our orthopedic education left out a F$&ING HUGE and important part of my patientโs bodies: the pelvic floor region!
20.11.2024 14:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I left the neuro acute rehab to work in an outpatient clinic with โorthopedicโ patients, but then found myself missing the โhigh highsโ of rehab: that first muscle activation, the first unassisted transfer, the first steps..
20.11.2024 14:35 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0โNeuroโ patients at that time and currently are not always offered manual therapy intervention that are aimed at their mechanical restrctions and โfunctionalโ training alone is not always enough.
20.11.2024 14:33 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That was because I highly valued my โorthopedicโ skill set and was using it to treat my โneuroโ patients. I.E. soft tissue and joint mobilization on my patient with a brain injury who had back pain or a patient with SCI and shoulder pain.
20.11.2024 14:31 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0But then when working in neuro while simultaneously studying for a multi-year manual therapy certification, I ALSO hated calling myself a Neuro PT.
20.11.2024 14:29 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Second, if you want to work with pro athletes, having neuro experience is SO helpful because you are USED to helping to make movements easier/more efficient which in the sports world translates to more strength/power (with a side of injury reduction).
20.11.2024 14:26 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That experience was IMPERATIVE to my current skill set in two ways. First, we have SO much overlap with neuro patients when we are healing post partum! Thatโs why I love PNF so much for treating this population.
20.11.2024 14:22 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Iโve worked extensively in neuro with patients working to regain function after spinal cord injury/brain injury/stroke. Those patients are the hardest working athletes! Our goal every day was performance training and getting more efficient/faster/functional.
20.11.2024 14:19 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Iโm a pelvic floor physical therapist, but I would really rather call myself a holistic physical therapist. (Continued)
20.11.2024 14:15 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Still trying to decide! Finally thinking marathon sounds fun for the first time is 5 years๐คฃ๐คฃ
