Justin Ling: Canada needs to make its voice heard around the world. Here’s one clear way to do that. To create stronger connections internationally, Canada can’t rely on the United States. We need to use our own soft diplomacy tools

Trump has functionally killed America's international broadcasting apparatus.

Russia and China are making up the difference.

if we still care about democracy and liberalism abroad, countries like Canada need to step up. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

β€œAs on so many fronts, Canada has convinced itself it doesn’t need to contribute to the world because America is doing our work for us.”
Ooof. I didn’t know much about RCI. The way it distinctly connected CA with the world, evaded blocking by restrictive govs to get news out is as relevant as ever.

There needs to be more integration of primary care training, sure, but I’d say most of our non-primary care roles require skill in team based care. Bridging knowledge gaps about and between health professionals is critical, supports integrated care, and benefits providers and patients.

IME - Allied health are absent, excluded from or siloed in these spaces, or the physician/leadership lacks understanding of how OUR roles work and can support care. Under-utilized for sure! Like an after thought rather than a key component of supporting someone’s complex, unique health care needs.

As a reminder to other scrollers, B.C. has really high child poverty rates: 16.7%, and even higher for other systemically oppressed groups, solo caregiver fams, and First Nation reserves.

Here’s the 2024 B.C. Child Poverty Report Card from First Call B.C.:

So frustrating and will have implications for student and family wellbeing, plus cost more down the line. Cited resources (food prog, MSDPR) don’t address the more varied financial needs of students to equitably participate at school. πŸ“š The Fund met needs with more privacy, less stigma, more flex.

a close up of a bowl of food with a few pieces missing Alt: a close up of a bowl with golden-fried samosas, and more being dumped in

A beautiful thing. What was the best part? The dough or the filling? I could crush some samosas right now.

I didn’t know about the practice of common lease expiration dates! β€œMoving is suffering but when everyone else is moving too, that’s not so bad.” A co-worker lives in MontrΓ©al and they and their roommates are so chill about moving today. I wonder if this is part of it.

I’m looking forward (?) to an update and overview of the current state. Just a few years ago there was a previous surge. There was evidence of it in the Valley, too.

Really enjoying the recent nicotine and tobacco content! Recently started in a new peer-led program for tobacco smoking cessation/harm reduction for 2S/LGBTQ+ folks. After primarily focusing on other substances for so long I have a policy learning curve for tobacco.

Canadians clutching their pearls about ICE barely know the Liberals are pushing through a bill right now giving the gov the ability to check your mail, get your IP and internet history, and makes immigration and asylum seeking way more difficult
