When people abstain from this responsibility, the main principle of democracy fails. And bad people will always come in to rule and abuse in its absence.

The new "sex and gender" executive order does nothing but make trans people's lives more difficult than they already are. Trans prisoners will be raped more, trans federal employees will be discriminated against more, and trans travelers will be subject to unneeded hassle.

This is in Nebraska, not Iowa. I didn’t think any governor could be worse than our last one but Pillen is consumed by his religious fervor. The new state senators are kowtowing to him but there is a sense that long-time senators are getting tired of these witch hunts.

With this bill, no trans person will be permitted to use public bathrooms in any state building including the University of Nebraska campuses. I am appalled but not surprised that Pillen and his stooges want their political legacies to be legalizing discrimination in Nebraska.

ICYMI: Nebraska lawmakers and Gov. Jim Pillen announced a new push to define "male" and "female" legally for high school and college sports, bathrooms and more of state government. Some advocates say they are needlessly targeting vulnerable populations.
