Terrific article , never knew such a folk festival on my doorstep. Agnes Owens , the Scottish author squatted in a derelict building with her husband Sam and gave birth to her son Bil back in 1950.

Agnes Owensโ writing was championed by Kelman and Gray but she remained mysteriously un-celebrated. โOne publisher said people donโt want that kind of writingโฆ about poor people.โ

It is without hyperbole to say that as a writer of short stories Agnes Owens is equal to Flannery OโConnor. And her novellas sit right next to those of Rachel Ingalls.
โShe was so good at evoking the claustrophobia and darkness and poverty of economics but plenitude of mind."
An excellent piece on Agnes Owens, by @danigaravelli.bsky.social. Dani has also written the introduction to a new edition of Gentlemen Of The West, which will be published by Polygon in May.
Yes I was there and it was a poor venue, went Glasgow Concert Hall last night to a gig which was great, if only Emmylou Harris had been there .
