Flashback Friday mini story:
Big group on a roadtrip, stop at Denny's. They put us in a back room by ourselves. We're talking, goofing, 1 woman asks, "Why does every guy know the words to 'The Gambler'?"

Every guy in the room, in unison:
"You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em..."

Oof, man. Oof.

The crew find an abandoned ship, boards it, and things go horribly wrong. It's like in slasher movies, "The killer's out there - let's take our flashlights and go find him!" Every time.

And that's why I've never watched the movie "Ghost Ship".

Oh, sure, understood. It's not a story, just a rant.
Every show that involves any kind of ship eventually does a ghost ship episode. It's such a trope, it drives me nuts.
Firefly has it - "Bushwacked".
Black Sails has it. Star Trek had a bunch over the various series.

Never heard of it. In its Wikipedia article, neither review quoted in "Reception" was complimentary. One used the word "tedious", which is not what one wants to hear about a horror movie.
Thanks for the warning - if I'd come across it, I would've been tempted by the presence of Martin Freeman.

The topic of songs with grim lyrics people don't notice fresh in my head, I heard one this morning whose popularity always amuses me - "(Don't Fear) The Reaper"; a song that is definitely a dude convincing his girlfriend to commit suicide with him.

I was scrolling and thought, "Why is he posting Zab pictures?"

First I have to say, I love that you chose Dujour. "Josie and the Pussycats" is such an underrated gem. As was "Can't Hardly Wait". 😉
But, playing along:

Yeah, I don't know. The reverse is true, too; of he's stalking the ex, why the part about "We bought a place..."?
Personally I just think they wrote shitty, catchy songs, & didn't give a lot of actual thought to the lyrics.

I mean... that's just the US.

"The person in the song and his girlfriend are still together and happy, having 'bought an old house on the Danforth' (Danforth Avenue in Toronto). However, he goes back to visit 'the old apartment' 'where we used to live', and winds up breaking in to reminisce."

I couldn't identify this song, but Wikipedia says:
"While some have misinterpreted the lyrics to mean that the man in the song is stalking an ex-girlfriend and breaks into her apartment to terrorize her, Ed Robertson has said that this is definitely not the case."

This is amazing. And it’s truly the stuff of nightmares.

This is basically a "fan theory", but if they used it - problem solved!
I also doubt the writers have been "wracking their brains" on this. It was likely a 5 minute conversation that ended with "ignore, reboot". This article is probably just exaggerating to have something to write.
