We draw on concepts of tolerance and liken hormesis to a well-studied (and sometimes controversial?) phenom. in evolutionary ecology -overcompensation. Whether or not overcompensation can respond to seln and evolve has been an open question. Our work suggests nope, not in this species at least!

Trying to use this principle to increase yield in other crops hasn't worked out bc the trait is flaky. This is our attempt to understand it and its ecological consequences in a weed!
