Doubt this photo conveys it well, but good weather + good food = massive turnout at Taste of Bloomington.

Came within a whisker of passing out due to sunstroke. Wasn’t hot, but I had a hat on to protect my scalp from the sun and sunscreen on too, but my skin doesn’t react well to sunscreen and wearing a hat, all the heat stays bottled up. Was staining my
deck in the sun … it got a bit real. I’m old.

Couldn't get the sweep, but winning the series against the Cubs is a W worth savoring. A rare five-game series at Wrigley in mid-August will obviously be large.

Can’t stop the Brew Crew. Tempered a bit by the Chourio injury, but fly it high.

Only saw Ryne Sandberg play a handful of times. One of those times he cranked a home run against the Phillies in my first visit to Wrigley Field. RIP.

IndyCar ... it's not hard. Throw the caution right away when a car is stricken. Quit trying to massage the cautions for pit windows or for an in-car starter that may or may not work.

It is really off-putting and contrived at best and dangerous at worst.

My daughter had a spare pair of Air Pods she gave me. Haven't had music in this kind of fidelity in my ears in a long time. Trippin' out on it.

Threw it on Q95 for a while for the first time since 2002-ish. Some notes.
- Playlist hasn’t changed … at all.
-Q95 code was strictly abided by as Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were played within an hour after I turned it on. As was “Lagrange”.
- Gunner!
- Curve ball thrown with a Tears For Fears song.

One of the most annoying things about the ‘87 Brewers highlight film is that right after the Easter Sunday win, it kicks into “I’m A Believer”. The 80s were corny.

George Webb's won't enter the lexicon this year. Logan Gilbert was masterful for Seattle.

RIP Ozzy. I’m not a huge Sabbath fan (to the degree I am it’s because Tony Iommi is badass) or Ozzy solo fan. I dabbled. However, Ozzy was bigger than life. When I was 10, he was the guy your parents scared you about with biting heads off bats, etc, but found out later he was just a harmless goof.

Ah Big Ten football media days. There will be many things I miss about sportswriting, but taking part in the dog and pony show stuff … much less traveling cross country to do it … is not one of them. (And I say that acknowledging that the Big Ten mostly ran this event well.)

Eleven in a row. First place by themselves in the NL Central. Best record in baseball all to themselves. Tomorrow it’s for all the burgers. It’s good to be a Brewers fan.

RIP Bob Hammel. Even in my short time in Bloomington, he was very helpful to me on several fronts. Class act ... which is the best thing you can say about anyone.
