enjoyer of art minis wargames and tabletop RPGs (mostly of the decended-from-but-not-actually D&D variety). If you follow me and you haven't posted SOMETHING on your account about RPGs or miniatures or art, I will assume you're a bot and block you.

working for an insurance company in a country full of plants that do that sure gets interesting sometimes....

this is excellent. I may plug this into a game of 4e or Lancer in the future, as I believe every campaign could be improved by a ball episode.

A scene from in the VIP pit of a Lancer mech duel in the Grand Arena of Throne Karrakis. Colorful pennants sway in the breeze high above the stadium. Huge shades that look like translucent petals shade the spectators, seated in the sandy white gallery stands. The architecture flows and curves rather than being rectilinear or purely circular. Pointed archways from the main arcade level. Ornate fluorescent light chandeliers light up the shaded stands. On the Field, a massive black Lancer frame lunges forward with a black broadsword, boosted forward with back-mounted rockets. A red ponytail flows from its helm. Parrying the blow in a shower of sparks is a sage green Lancer frame with a curved scimitar-like sword. It pirouettes on digitigrade legs, its blue cape tails swirling in the arena dust. It is adorned with golden filigree. In the pit, two factions face off, each representing their frame in demeanor and attire. On the left, matched with the black knight mecha, a cadre of nobles (perhaps from the House of Stone), all in black and red and metal and furs, stand haughtily. The main one raises her whiskey glass in smug superiority. She has dark skin and an undercut hairstyle of red hair. Next to her is an older man, bald and bearded, with dark skin and a grumpy expression. On the right, representing perhaps the House of Glass, a rakish young noble lifts his wine glass in mocking salute. He has twin swords on his belt and an orange cape. Next to him is a beautiful noblewoman in a dress covered in rose-like flowers. a chain veil covers her face. Behind them, vidscreens show alternate angles of the mech duel, including shots from the cockpits of each frame, showing the determination and effort of each Lancer that pilots them.

I keep coming back to these tarot inspired mechs because I had so much fun designing them and thinking about the world they are from.
I think I'm going to try and make a game about them. That way I can have my friends pilot their own make-believe-cool-robot assigned by fate.

Some less seen kit-based sketches done for Fogbank for this week's throwback! I remember this one being a material challenge; most refined materials like lumber and stone being recycled relics but leather being one of the few renewables.

at a certain level of any creative or intellectual collaborative job the main task is sin-eater: to fix what you can and get blamed for what you canโ€™t, secretly knowing how much worse it would have been if you hadnโ€™t done what you did.

A slim mecha, with digitigrade dog-like legs, and one arm missing, replaced with an array of antennae, dishes and multi-lensed cameras. The one hand holds a crossbow pointed downwards with twin sets of arms, making it X-shaped, holding a twin-headed arrow with sparks arcing between the two heads. There is a quiver of arrows with different heads on its back, one resembling an RPG warhead. It is in a police livery half painted over, and covered in graffiti slogans and graphics, and dirt.
The head is flat and snake-like with a thin wrap-around visor, antenna on one "ear" and a V-shaped fin on the other. It has some small extra scope optics attached with a strap, resembling an eyepatch. It wears a chequered tasselled cloth around its neck, with a pin featuring a spread-eagle bird attached. On the upper arm holding the crossbow is a piece of retrofitted armour, a grid of metal like modern tank cage armour. Below the quiver is a mechanical loading arm for the arrows. There is a glowing orange window in the centre of the chest partially covered by the neck cloth, presumably looking at the reactor. The chest and hip area have a number of angled stand-off metal bars, and the hips have a little light on top of each, one red and one blue. There is a yellow taser-like weapon holstered on the inner thigh. The slim legs end in 3 little claws.
On the main large round piece of the sensor array, is a smiley face and graffiti saying "Smile! You're on camera". On the back-mounted quiver is a kingfisher icon, on one thigh is scrawled ACAB and on the other "No Pasaran!!" On the side of the crossbow is "deny, defend, depose" and a crown with a red line through it (no points for subtlety).
Behind the mech is the word Diamondback in outlined graffiti font, partially obscured.

At the bottom is text reading:
HRF Diamondback - Track and Trace Hunter. Adaptive Intrusion Suite, Volt Pistol, Trojan Override.
Art: Jonathan Caridia.
Lancer: The Mech RPG. And some copyright information.

Hearth-7's hacker/hunter #mech, the Diamondback, is done! A repurposed police-variant loader frame jammed with tracking and e-warfare systems, especially useful against camouflaged or hidden enemies.
The most detailed and spacially difficult one yet!

I'm fortunate enough to own the Hildebrandt Bros.' Tolkien art book and it's full of fantastic process tidbits. The photo references are particularly great to see.

Greg Hildebrandt: "The Polaroid camera was the greatest thing ever invented for artists with deadlines." Extremely relatable.
