I can finally reveal the latest card I made for Magic the Gathering the Rust Harvester

Part of the Edge of the Eternities line this was such a fun card to work on and one I can’t wait to see players get it in their hands

Got round to updating my portfolio showing off some new work that I have worked on recently.

From the reveal of the lands cards I did for Magic the Gathering to the cover illustration for Science Focus, it’s now up on my website

When it comes to making roughs I always do them like this since colours play a large role in what I do and I like to think what they may be for the final, I’m pretty playful when making them since I more interested in capturing the overall idea than adding in details.

Looking back to the first illustration I made in Affinity Designer while figuring out how things tick to one of the last illustrations I had worked on within Designer.

It’s come a long way to get to here but there is still a need to keep pushing forward

With the end of @secret7s I can now finally reveal my sleeve cover design based on the Scissor Sisters song Return to Oz

Secret 7 was a one off exhibition with artwork presented on record sleeves based on a small selection of songs and with all proceeds going to War Child

Here’s a breakdown of the Fahrenheit 451 piece showing off the wireframes and it without any shading or textures.

I tend to keep things clean and to break down composition into elements to keep things readable before working on the finer details and shading

Haven’t shown some roughs in a long time so here’s the roughs I worked on for the Science Focus cover

From psychedelic patterns to capturing the motion of a swinging pendulum to the one that was selected with the eye

Here is an alternative cover illustration made for Science Focus which didn’t make the cut along with a couple of small spot illustrations which were meant for inside

Still it’s fun to have other options when it comes to working with colour

Been wanting to make mockups of book covers for a while so here is the first one I’ve made based on Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, a book set in the not too distant future where books are largely banned and burned by the firemen

Just a break down on how I make my work, first I usually use a piece of paper where I quickly draw thumbnail ideas where I then select the ones that have potential to be developed further in more detailed roughs

Imagine a stealth based video game which is kind of like Hitman but you steal people’s noses

Was a fun but quick thing to make for this year’s show

You should check it out if you can, it may be a bit alien at first but after using it I feel that it works better for me

For these illustrations I use Affinity Designer which allows me to do things quicker and also allowing me to paint inside vectors within the same app

This is what the vector work looks like before I add the shading, I kind of work out the basic structure of the piece and in this case use the shading to give form to my work

I would show a rough of this but since this is for myself there is none since I just had an idea and went with it
