24.10.2025 02:48 — 👍 1790 🔁 668 💬 80 📌 121It wasn't fake. It was edited. But Reagan really did spend a five-minute speech – an April 25, 1987, national radio address that the Reagan Library has published on YouTube – to rail against tariffs. It was a full-throated expression of support for free and fair trade.

It started with Reagan and has accelerated under Trump.

Here's a rewrite of today's essay-length thread about contraceptive rights - why we should care & why we don't.
I wrote the thread before I'd had my decaf (or gotten out of bed) so it had some issues. Hopefully, it's better, now.

Thank you for ever sparing a few moments of your day - or many moments - to act for better and to fight for a fairer future for people living in NB. Breathing clean air is a right. We all deserve to breathe air that won’t sicken us, same as we deserve to drink clean water and eat safe food.
22.10.2025 21:45 — 👍 19 🔁 3 💬 3 📌 0People have overwhelmingly moved on and even memory-holed Covid. But there was a time when provincial public health was on everyone’s minds, and their work and their comms affected us daily in a very big way. That power needs to come from facts and reality, not politics. I am so grateful to all.
22.10.2025 21:44 — 👍 19 🔁 3 💬 1 📌 0We are only 4 years removed from the October when Higgs cancelled Thanksgiving at the last minute but told people they could eat in restaurants and the government opened a snitch line for ratting out your neighbours. If only that time and money went into clean air.
22.10.2025 21:42 — 👍 17 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0Not everyone who worked so hard to see this change got a happy ending. People’s health has deteriorated. People have lost jobs and friendships. Family connections. Having the courage to both see AND say “this is wrong, we deserve better” has a price. These changes don’t happen at all without us…
22.10.2025 21:27 — 👍 17 🔁 2 💬 1 📌 0Make no mistake; many people in NB are still suffering thanks to intentional misdeeds by provincial public health 2020-2022 and beyond. We still don’t have clean air in schools. Hospitals still pretend COVID is not airborne. And there is no help for long COVID patients.
22.10.2025 21:25 — 👍 24 🔁 5 💬 1 📌 1Back in 2021-2022 we had some very active people involved. Erica. Jessica. Cheryl. We also had the wonderful CBC hosts and reporters who worked really hard and listened, and tried their best. We had some great CTV journos working on stuff too. I really don’t think this change happens w/out them.
22.10.2025 21:24 — 👍 18 🔁 2 💬 1 📌 0I don’t think that we see this version of NB without NB twitter. That world is gone now, and this place is less cohesive, and less goofy, but for the few who remain and will see this I want to say thanks. I want to say thanks to those who have moved on too, but were so instrumental in fighting.
