Moment today after cleaning my room (a ritual for the whole house every Sunday) when the sun broke through the cloud cover. It was warm enough that I could open the windows and then, as if on cue, the birdsong began. Amongst the grey of winter I felt a glimpse of Spring. How wonderful!

When I was younger I used to write reminder notes for myself, and sign them from the past version of me. Was checking through my old music files recently and find one on a playlist! It was pre-Covid old!

Realised it's been a fortnight since that first rejection, and in that time I've changed my outlook on writing entirely. I wondered how long it would dwell on it and the answer is not long at all!

Getting ready for round two. Prepare yourself publishers and agents, I'm not giving up yet!

Feeling good right now. Writing is going well, feedback is coming in, and Spring is right around the corner!

Always nice to write these moments down so I can reflect on them later, when things feel a little more trying and the routine is heavier on you.

It's a predominantly solitary discipline too, at least in the early stages. No editors or people you can appeal to for feedback. Just yourself and words on a page. And when the ideas begin to wane, or any form of doubt or dip forms, you're left without the words for company too.

Sometimes the greatest struggle with writing is the isolation. It's hard to relate the craft with people around you because they're either undyingly supportive (which really isn't so helpful) or completely dismissive... and writing communities are few and far between sadly.

I'm a bit of a mixed bag author. Not really found my feet on any one genre or writing style. Perhaps I never will. Nonetheless, this piece follows Alex who must navigate a gothic nightmare to find the person who has taken his daughter. And right the supposed wrongs.

I've never done a 'big twist' in a piece of #writing before. Sure, there's always twists and turns but this current piece is based upon this revelation. Maintaining a balance of not giving whiplash in the conclusion, all the while making the twist worth it is trying...

Few feelings better than having written something and being genuinely proud of it. Early drafts, and long way to go until it's a fully done, but I love seeing how far I've come as a #writer! A year ago, something of this quality would have been unthinkable, who knows what next?

Speaking to the folk at home this morning and one of them goes 'did you hear about XYZ thing in politics from yesterday?' Then, for perhaps the first time in literal years, I said no. Not being on the internet nearly as much meant I hadn't whatsoever... how nice a sensation that was!

Started a digital detox from a few days ago. Bye to Twitter, Reddit, Instagram (except to message a singular friend I'm attempting to convince to move to another platform), Discord, and Youtube.

You control what comes into your life, and those platforms are rotten and full of slop. Time to #write!

Nothing worse than getting ready to start something new and then getting ill, laying in my bed and feeling sorry for myself is not the best way to start the week...

Had my first rejection of my #writing career this week. It's a strange thing which happens to your mind when faced with denial. I knew it was coming and yet still feel disappointed? How bizarre is it to be human?

Best thing to do is scrap that project for now, and start afresh with what I've learnt
