Just read this excellent, research-led doc on reading in Secondary. Clear, practical, rooted in the SVoR, vocab, background know. & disciplinary literacy. Lovely to see how much it aligns with what we champion in Early Years & Primary. Real sense of continuity. Useful for CPD & cross-phase work! 👏

It was really interesting to join this @openuniversity.bsky.social seminar and hear about @lashaps.bsky.social and Prof. Jessie Ricketts’ work on teaching the skill of reading and fostering reading motivation as children move into secondary school @teresacremin.bsky.social

My PhD student @nataliakika.bsky.social is still looking to recruit parents of teens aged 12-18 years to take part in a 1-hour online interview about looking for mental health information online. These findings will inform intervention development, so we need to close recruitment asap! 🙌

Absolutely! Although choosing is hard and children need support to learn what they enjoy reading - this is why librarians are so valuable- and the Love to Read programme has good strategies for teachers to help children choose: blogs.ed.ac.uk/lovetoread/p...
