I'm tired of seeing how every corner of the internet has to be safe for children. It doesn't. It shouldn't be. Keep those kids off the web, it's unhealthy for them. Let adults have their space. How about instead of asking us for ID like we commited a crime, you make the spaces we use 18+?

It's wild to be a few years into a society wide a.i. smash-and-grab project and suddenly say out loud that maybe they might need to come up with a use for a.i.

I’ve often struggled with being an active participant in platforms styled like this. I hopped over from Threads, and I’ve noticed a similar tonal shift.

But the same thing is happening on Threads too, as well as Instagram, so I don’t think it’s just the algorithm. Maybe just really shitty times. πŸ™ƒ

You should have a website
I know. You already have a social media account. But you should also have a personal website. Here's why.
You control your website
When you post on social media, you are subject to the whims of whoever runs it. If you get banned, no one knows how to find you. If the website gets sold to someone who sucks, you cannot transfer your identity somewhere else. If the main algorithm that people use to find your posts starts suppressing your posts, you have no backup plan.

Social media leaves you bouncing from one enshittified, corporate-owned app to another.
Your website is your fallback plan
When your favorite social media website gets bought by some asshole with more money than sense, you are going to be left holding the bag. If you have a website, you can link your social media profiles on the website, and build up a reputation as having that website so people know where to find you if your current social media implodes.
You will feel better if you have control over your technology
I'm a glass artist. I use a kiln about 3-5 times a week for my work. A few months ago, my thermocouple broke. I don't have a place in town that will repair kilns, and anyway, it's too heavy to move around. Luckily, kilns are meant to be user-serviced. The thermocouple popped out, I ordered a new one, and I did a little work with a screwdriver to get the new one in place. And you know what? It felt great. Because it gave me a sense of agency

Neotropolis, one of the things I produce and enjoy, that YOU can come experience in April.

That escapism I was talking about? Yeah. Celebration of art, storytelling, and community? HELL yeah.

They haven’t. I could probably force the issue, there really -isn’t- enough in-person work for two of us at the moment.

Frustratingly, I -do- end up more productive when working around others, so blanket WFH isn’t ideal for me. πŸ™ƒ

Now my commute averages 1 to 1 1/2 hours, often through bumper-to-bumper gridlock on the 101. And there is no convenient way to get to Caltrain, and it would take longer anyway.

I just miss enjoying the act of getting to and from work, instead of enduring it.

Being able to take my Onewheel to work, or the bus when it was raining, and have it take 30 minutes or less was the height of civilization for me.

This was my one of two places I would take myself to lunch, back when I worked from home. And almost always a meal half this size, lol. It’s about 1.5 miles from my door by foot, so it’s perfect for an hour lunch; walk there, quick bite, walk back.

I dunno what to use Bluesky for! So, uh, I guess I’ll start just putting up pictures and chat about? lol

This is the nearest sushi place to me! It’s pretty decent, and while the rolls don’t really do much for me, most of the nigiri is good. I like their rice, too, but their hot sake is pretty bad

Man, I -just- started vibing with Threads after the algorithm blindsided me with the election. Then Zuckerbug decides to appease the shareholders?

What's that old Firefly song?

"Burn the land, Boil the sea,
But you can't take the Sky from me."

So here I am instead, haha.
