83 year old Jack Smith (left) receives an illuminated address from Chelsea Vice-Chairman, Mr C J Pratt in recognition of his sixty years as a turnstile operator at Stamford Bridge.
Jack, of Chesson Road W14 started on the gate in 1905 and is still working in February 1965.

On This Day 8th May 1985, Chelsea won 2-0 against Luton Town at Stamford Bridge in a Division 1 fixture.
Kerry Dixon on 26 minutes and Pat Nevin on 80 minutes scored for Chelsea.
The attendance was 13,789.

41 years ago today one of the greatest, most memorable, days in my decades watching Chelsea. Beating Leeds 5-0 to clinch promotion. Unsurpassable.

Bobby Tambling gets the other two goals and
the Glasgow Charity Cup victory is seen by 36,641 spectators.

On This Day 20th April 1987, Chelsea drew 1-1 with Southampton at Stamford Bridge in a Division I fixture.
Pat Nevin gave Chelsea the lead but Colin Clarke levelled for Southampton.
The attendance was 11,512.

Worth remembering that Djurgarden would have been Chelseaโs first ever European Cup opponents had the club not been forced by the Football League to withdraw from the inaugural competition in 1955/56.
