I have an inherited 40-yr-old mink coat & if you think about it, that item is alot more "ecological" than a dozen polyester fast-fashion coats worn over the same period. Would I buy a new mink, if I could? Nope. Plenty of good used ones around for the same price as a wool coat for those who want 'em

hot take abt subculture: just let people do their thing. there’s always been "posers", conservatives and bigots among punks, goths, metalheads etc. we can condemn the fast fashion industry and irresponsible consumption without bullying people even if they only wear smth for aesthetics.

Something that really stuck with me from the fast fashion episode of Rare Earth, and is still cheering me up: sites like Vinted and Ebay are making a significant dint in fast fashion sales, and people are choosing to buy better quality clothes so they can sell them on. Less waste, wins all round 🎉🎉🎉

Outsourcing, expensive materials, expensive machines, and the shift from indie culture to fast fashion/trend chasing kinda. Killed everything I'm ngl

And the unrealistic high expectations of new sellers to have *only* shop quality product

I thought I was finished, but then I decided to see if I could use fabric pieces smaller than what the directions call for so I wouldn't have to throw away the narrow part of the bowties that go around the neck. Success! Enough for six more! Here are three. #rollosties #upcycling #crafting #crafts

if anyone else has also been really into upcycling and been doing it to clothes etc might i also suggest bookbinding📚 its SO fun and you can use things you might already have (school glue, push pins, sewing needle and thread, sturdy board from packaging or boxes)

Upcycled a used queen size quilt to a blanket jacket and no regrets! Extremely happy with the warmth.

My other other conclusion is that "outfit recycling" should be the highest badge of honor in fashion and so we should STOP complimenting people for new clothes and START complimenting people who wear the same thing again.

My other conclusion was that learning to mend clothing was probably the single most sustainable thing I could do, and that at least was wholly in my control.
