Came in thinking this would be about OOP. Great read.

Any offerings that are Postgres compatible, HA and can survive disk/node failures without losing data? And by postgres compatible I mean wire format, SQL engine and features like LISTEN/NOTIFY.

My favorite example of this is a methods book papers I saw being citing that was literally not available anywhere on the Internet. It was a book from the 1930s. I reached out to a few authors too who did cite it and they'd never read it either.

Systems research was terrible at this. I call it "citation by induction": you saw related work citing it, so you do too.

As a result, you'd see papers being cited for no reason other than some keyword in the title matched.

Does anyone have any tools for casually viewing metrics? As in, I don't have to deploy a database and another app in multiple containers to look at them? So far, I'm just using viewing metrics as text, which I'd call barely adequate.

Woke up today to something like 50 job applications, all completely irrelevant to the job profile, but submitted from a similar email domain. What even is the goal here?

It's really good! Hit all the right notes for me in terms of sci-fi world building, intrigue, and really great characters.

I did start that series but it didn't quite click for me. It didn't help that I started it right after the Red Rising series.

This LLM hype is nothing new, Rust & Haskell developers have had compiler-induced psychosis for decades now.

My favorite procurement moment in a while:

"CEO will be signing"

"Sorry, CEO is on vacation, so apparently the CTO should sign"

"Sorry, CTO is on vacation too, we're trying to find the first person not on holiday who can sign"

I usually think of network stack as the part of the OS/kernel that takes application payloads and writes it out to network devices (and back), and provides some set of guarantees while doing so. Things like DPDK, mTCP etc.

It's easiest to write your own code for this (you're effectively writing a controller). Anything else is just a comical amount of complexity and pointless terminology salad.

"we are looking at a massive scale need, so I want to make sure you can handle this volume first"

"that's exciting! How many users do you have that you have this kind of scale?"

"none, we haven't built the product yet"

India bars Jane Street from its securities market, citing manipulation of stock indexes Indian regulators barred U.S. securities trading company Jane Street from the local market until further orders and seized $567 million of its funds, saying an investigation found it manipulated stock indices through positions taken in derivatives.

I simply don't understand the logic behind Google drive's UI. The web view always shows a completely random collection of documents. Creating folders is pointless because you can almost never find them afterwards. Can I get a regular filesystem like layout?
