I've been using OpenAI's gtp-oss:20b model while studying the Go language spec, and I was surprised to see it make up things that don't exist in the spec. For example, "complex_literal" isn't mentioned anywhere in the spec, but it was explained in the response when I asked about imaginary literals.

wget Removed from Ubuntu Server 25.10 Default Install Ubuntu Server 25.10 removes wget from its default installation, in favour of the wcurl tool. Here's why the change was made and if it'll affect you.

Rich Hickey retired. That doesn't mean you get to break all the things, everyone else. Sheesh. www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/08/ubun...

Every Reason Why I Hate AI and You Should Too maybe it's anti-innovation, maybe it's just avoiding hype. But one thing is clear, I'm completely done with hearing about AI.

🚨TESTIMONY OF THE YEAR: A Texas voter just torched Donald Trump and Greg Abbott during a redistricting hearing - and it was BRUTAL:

β€œHe cheated on the golf course…
He cheated on his taxes…
He cheated on his wives…
He cheated on democracy…”

But then came the mic drop πŸ‘‡

A tip for remote teams of 2-10 people. Create a personal β€œramblings” channel for each teammate in your team’s chat app of choice.

Ramblings channels let everyone share what’s on their mind without cluttering group channels. Think of them as personal journals or microblogs inside your team’s chat app, a lightweight way to add ambient social cohesion.

People typically post short updates 1-3 times per week. Common topics include:

- ideas related to current projects
- musings about blog posts, articles, user feedback
- β€œwhat if” suggestions
- photos from recent trips or hobbies
- rubber ducking a problem

Each ramblings channel should be named after the team member, and only that person can post top-level messages. Others can reply in threads, but not start new ones.

All the ramblings channels should be in a Ramblings section at the bottom of the channel list. They should be muted by default, with no expectation that anyone else will read them.

We started experimenting with ramblings at Obsidian two years ago, and they’ve been surprisingly sticky. We have no scheduled meetings, so ramblings are our equivalent of water cooler talk. We want as much deep focus time as possible, so ramblings help us stay connected while minimizing interruptions.

Because they are so free and loose, some of our best ideas emerge from ramblings. They’re often the source of feature ideas, small prototypes, and creative solutions to long-standing problems.

About once a year, we do a week-long in-person meetup. Ramblings have been one successful way we keep the human connection going throughout the rest of the year.

bauer.codes | Pull Requests Are a Poor Fit For Agentic AI Generative PRs rely on a broken feedback loop and make the innate social human brittleness around PRs load-bearing.

Pull requests are a poor fit for #AgenticAI. #AI relies on human feedback loops to keep from going off the rails, and making the innate social human brittleness around PRs load-bearing is a recipe for bad product.

- Marvin Minsky, AI visionary, sex pest and general creep
- Peter Theil, AI investor, pusher of authoritarian monarchy and tech supremacist

The AI community's biggest export is plagiarism, but perversion might be a close second.

The FIPS 140-3 Go Cryptographic Module Go now has a built-in, native FIPS 140-3 compliant mode.

We announced the new native Go FIPS 140-3 mode today!

FIPS 140, like it or not, is often a requirement, and I was increasingly sad about large deployments replacing the Go crypto packages with non-memory safe cgo bindings.

Go is now one of the easiest and most secure ways to build under FIPS 140.

A weathered fantasy map of Middle Earth from The Lord of the Rings, showing two different journey routes marked in contrasting colors. The red line shows Frodo and Sam's path from the Shire to Mordor, while the blue line shows Bilbo's earlier journey as depicted in The Hobbit. The map includes familiar locations like the Shire, Rohan, and Mordor, with mountains and forests illustrated in a classic Tolkien-style cartography. The map appears aged with sepia tones and includes text labels in stylized fantasy font. A compass rose and scale bar are visible in the lower left corner, and the title reads "The Map of Middle Earth.

Damn ... how far Bilbo and Frodo actually walked

(If the Shire is Kansas, Mordor is Jacksonville)

/2 An insulting reply to a diplomatic insult is fine. Like if Malaysia sends us a bag of shit saying β€œthis is the spoor of the Tabbu-Tabbu, a mystical rainforest creature, believed to bring good luck,” we can send them a pair of Truck Nutz with a note β€œthis denotes authority amongst our people.”
